Tomorrow is International Cat Day, and I, cat lover that I am, can't just let that pass unnoticed. Since 2002, August 8th is the day on which you can shamelessly show your love for cats to the world. So no one will look at you strangely if you act like a crazy cat lady with cat ears on your head.
Since the ancient Egyptians, the cat has been an indispensable part of our lives. First as a protector of the grain supply by hunting rats and later as a companion on the laps of beautiful Egyptian beauties. Some cats were even so prominent that they were mummified after their death. Moreover, their goddess of fertility, Bastet, was depicted as a cat. But with the arrival of Christianity, that divine status became history. Now, 2000 years later, the cat seems to be more popular than ever! People literally spend hundreds of euros on a scratching post, the internet is full of cat videos and on Instagram #cat offers you no less than 214 million pictures of this stubborn and mystical creature.
I too am, as I said, a cat fan. With two fluffy housemates, Saartje and Charlie, our laps are rarely empty (but they do have a carpet of cat hair). And about the lifestyle of cats, Catfulness , I already wrote a blog about it.
In light of International Cat Day, here are five tips to make it a party.
Cat cafe Katdeau
Want to surround yourself with cats? Then visit Cat cafe KatDeau in Hengelo. There are five naked cats walking around who would love to be petted by you. And you can also have a nice high tea there. Owner Dominique bakes everything herself.
CatVideoFest
Tomorrow at Concordia in Enschede CatVideoFest 2020 shown. For an hour and a half you can enjoy the best cat videos from YouTube on the big screen. And a bonus in this heat: there is air conditioning!
Cat movies
Don't feel like going out? Via iTunes, for example, you can watch the special film at home Kedi watch, in which a number of cats in Istanbul are 'followed'. Also worth it because of the beautiful shots of the city. Or choose A street cat named Bob , based on a true story.
New house
Although cats are very popular now, unfortunately the shelters are also full of these animals. So if you really want to make a difference, give one a new forever home. How about Katty ? Or from Rheza ?
Catty stuff
The cat has been a recurring theme in my illustrations for years, sometimes in the foreground, sometimes subtly behind a window. In my webshop I have a special cat gory made with all the cat stuff together.
Have a nice day tomorrow!
